HIGHSTONE DIRECTORS

SAMANTHA EWEN  AISTD Dip. AISTD Licentiate ARBTA – Principal, Director, Choreographer, Teacher.

Sam is Principal of The Highstone Dance Academy and began her dance training when she was 3 years old. At the age of 16, Sam won a place at Arts Educational School in London where she trained for three years achieving a professional dance diploma and teaching qualifications in ballet, tap and modern and later gained Associate Diploma status and becoming a Jazz and Tap Examiner for the Association of Russian Ballet and Theatre Arts.

After graduating she became head of Jazz and ISTD at the Gypsy Booth school of Theatre Arts for 10 years. Other teaching credits include Arts Educational School, Enfield College, Bishop Douglas School and The Lesley Hand School of Dancing.

Sam has a wide range of experience in training children and students for ISTD exams, choreographing shows, pantomimes, fashion shows and charity events. Several ex pupils have gone on to have careers on stage and screen in productions such as Chicago, The Rat Pack, Me and My Girl, Wizard of Oz,  Eastenders, Hollyoaks and Big Brother. As well as others becoming dance teachers themselves.

Sam became Principal of Highstone in 1998 and currently teaches all the higher and major grades as well as ensuring the smooth running of the school along with Sally.

SALLY ASSOUL— Director/Administrator

Sally was a co-founder of The Highstone Dance Academy in 1989. Sally takes care of all the administrative side of the school, she maintains smooth and successful operation of Highstone. Liasing with parents and pupils on a daily basis, she co-ordinates all classes, workshops and events.  Her job is to ensure everyone is happy and that pupils are able to benefit from the wide range of dance opportunities and make the most of what The Highstone Dance Academy has to offer.

 

HIGHSTONE TEACHING STAFF

SIAN DEMPSEY – ISTD  DDI DDE

Sian has been a part of Highstone for 19 years since taking her first ballet class at the age of 3.  She has studied many styles of dance over the years including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Street and Hip Hop.

At the age of 18 she chose to continue her training at the North London Dance Studio (NLDS) where she successfully gained both DDI and DDE certificates in Tap and Modern. As a dancer Sian has performed at Move It!, Britain’s Next Top Model, charity events and was part of the original Edinburgh cast of ‘Soldier’ a Hip hop production performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Sian teaches Advanced Jazz, Street Boyz, Street Crew, Tap and Workshops.

MEG GALLAGHER.

Meg began trained at The Highstone Dance Academy for many years and at 18 years old went on to full time training in Dance & Musical Theatre at the London Studio Centre.

Theatre credits include a ten person musical theatre showcase (Criterion Theatre), A Tribute To Women (Shanghai, China), Plague! The Musical (C Venue, Edinburgh), Mack and Mabel (Broadway Theatre), Hobson’s Choice (OSO), Call Me Madam (The Gatehouse) Metamorphose (France) and Cosmoprof (Italy) Sound of Music (Gordon Craid).  She featured in a VW Polo cinema commercial and regularly works as a model and dancer.

Meg is part of the Tootsie Rollers, a very successful Vintage retro girl group, who have performed all over the country.

Meg teaches Musical Theatre Singing and Workshops.

ROBERT HAMPTON

Robert was born in London where he trained at the Legat Russian Ballet School. He joined Scottish Ballet in 1979, making his Principal debut as James in La Sylphide in 1983. He was promoted to Principal Dancer in 1986. Robert has danced all the danseur noble roles in Scottish Ballets repertoire:Bournonvilles La Sylphide, Darrell’s Giselle, Swan Lake Cinderella and The Nutcracker, and Wrights Coppelia and many One Act Ballets and Pas De Deux. In Ballets such as Cranko’s Romeo + Juliet, Darrell’s Carmen and Tales of Hoffman his considerable dramatic gift was noted. In 1992, Robert was made patron of the Russian Ballet Society.  He now spends a lot of his time  travelling the world now examining pupils. His recent trips include Japan, Cyprus, Italy and Thailand. Robert has been teaching adults ballet at Highstone for the past 8 years and the class is always a huge success.

Robert teachers our very successful Adults Ballet class.

HOLLY HILLIER ISTD DDI DDE

Holly began her dance training at the age of 3 at The Highstone Dance Academy.

During her time at Highstone, she trained in ISTD Ballet, Tap and Modern, assisted with many of the younger classes and performed in four of the Wyllyotts pantomimes for Jordan Productions, acting as dance captain for three of them.

At 18, she then went on to train full time at North London Dance Studios. During her time there, Holly was head girl, worked as a dancer at many events (including ‘Move It!’ and the IRB London 7’s) and completed her ISTD teaching qualifications in Imperial Ballet, Tap and Modern.  Holly is now furthering her ballet training with the RAD working towards her Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies.

Highstone has been her second home for the last 19 years and she is thrilled to be teaching in the place where she first discovered her love of dance.

Holly teaches Ballet, Commercial Jazz, Modern, Lyrical and Contemporary & Workshops.

FRANCESCA WEBB   ISTD DDI DDE

Francesca began dancing at the age of 3 at The Suella School of Performing Arts, at 16 she went on to study dance full time at The North London Dance Studios where she gained teaching qualifications in ISTD Ballet, Tap and Modern Theatre Dance.

Since qualifying Francesca has done some professional performing – including dancing at London Fashion Week. Although is happiest and most confident when teaching.

Francesca now teaches at 3 schools in the London and Hertfordshire areas, as well as running her own very successful dance school in Enfield.

Francesca has been a part of The Highstone Dance Academy for 10 years, she is a valued member of the team and a huge asset to the school.

Francesa teaches Ballet, Modern and Tap.

ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT.

DEBBIE DOHENY

The Highstone Dance Academy has been a part of Debbie’s life since 1995. She now has three daughters who have enjoyed dancing at Highstone for many years.

Debbie takes the registers and works  closely with parents and children, ensuring everyone is happy and giving any feedback to Sally & Sam. She also greatly helps out at showtime and is Head Chaperone  for the Highstone Pupils at the annual Wyllyotts Pantomime.
